Morning routine

Ahhh its time to get up, how can it be morning already?! Every morning is a new opportunity for a fresh start. Use these 6 tips to help you start your day the perfect way.

TIP #1 MEDITATE FIRST THING By starting your day in silence you are setting yourself up for the day in a positive light. Meditation causes the pituitary gland in your brain to secrete endorphins, the happy feel good both physically and emotionally chemical. Meditation also enhances activity in the area of your brain that’s associated with positive emotions and experiences. Some studies suggest that meditation helps combat depression and anxiety, while others say that regular meditation may improve pain tolerance. By starting your day out with a 10-15 minute meditation you are putting your mind on the right path to have a successful and happy day.

TIP #2 OIL PULLING Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth first thing in the morning. Oil pulling from 5 - 20 minutes has many positive side effects such as; getting rid of bad breath, strengthening gums, reducing inflammation, whitening teeth and has also been reported to work deeper into the human body by preventing diseases and boosting the immune system

Warm lemon water first thing in the morning has numerous benefits, but have you ever tried it with a pinch of pink Himalayan salt?! Every morning I have one litre of warm lemon water and a pinch of pink Himalayan salt and in my opinion, it's the best way to start the day! Warm lemon water first thing is the perfect way to warm up the digestive tract to aid digestion, kick start your metabolism, balance your PH levels and promote healing by detoxifying the liver. Once you add in the salt it increases your immune function, decreases uric acid to fight inflammation, detoxes your cells as well as clears up your skin and improves the look of cellulite. These benefits can be attributed to the vitamin C content of the lemon juice as well as the essential minerals contained in Himalayan salt.

TIP #4 STRETCH AND MOVE  Think about it, you spend 8 hours hardly moving when you are fast asleep then you roll out of bed and shuffle to the bathroom with your head down looking at your phone. Tell me, does your posture change at all during the day?! My guess is probably not. When you wake up try stretching out and waking up all of your muscles. Stand up out of bed and reach overhead whilst leaning back. Fall forward and try to touch your toes. Roll your head from side to side as you take a few deep breathes inhaling and exhaling.

TIP #5 EXERCISE Exercise can come in the form of a simple 15 minute walk around the block a few times or a full on workout. Whichever works best for you, the morning is great time to move and feel like you've accomplished something before the day has really even begun! Not only will you have the after workout buzz of endorphins to put you in a good mood but you will be more likely to eat well for the rest of the day!

TIP #6 WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS / DAILY ACTION PLAN As the old saying goes - 'If you fail to plan then you are planning to fail' - so why set your day up to fail? Have a plan and write it down. I am a big believer of having goals to work towards but sometimes if you are too focused on the big picture you miss the little things along the way. Write down your daily goals and plan when you are going to complete these tasks.

I hope these tips have inspired you to start your day on a positive and healthy note!  Love, Cat x
